Experimental Flute
Oct. 26th, 2022 08:11 amLast night I went up to Crosstown for a program of Experimental Music for Flute. It was done by Elise Blatchford, a professor at UofM. The program consisted of "Idyll for the Misbegotten" by George Crumb, "Luciform" by Mario Diaz de Leon, "Glimpses" by Raminta Šerkšnytė, "An Empty Garlic" by Du Yun, and "Can I Have It without Begging?" by Eve Beglarian. I wasn't familiar with any of it, but it was all good. It was mostly just Elise with flute but the first piece also had three percussionists accompanying. Then all the rest (except for the third one which was just solo flute) she played along with laptop. And on the fourth one she played bass flute. The audience was mostly UofM people, students and faculty and such. I did recognize our old neighbor Jeremy (he's a professor of music at UofM) and talked to him a little bit after the show.
