Foreground

I worked on recording and finishing up that track that I'd talked about before. This time, I think I achieved what I was going for. The same effect as I'd imagined my failed attempt having, just more improvisatory in execution. This is all recorded on the four-track cassette machine, so I mixed it down and recorded it into the digital recorder. I did multiple passes with different mixes. First I thought I'd try something with the noise background being lower and then compressing it all, and I did a couple different passes with different levels but that ended up not working out. So I did a couple more passes with the noise louder, matching the foreground, these just with slightly different level tweaks between the two passes. Now today I'll need to go through them and see which works best, maybe a little post-production, but we'll see what, if any, is needed. Later at night we finally went for a subscription to the Criterion Channel and watched Effi Briest. It was extremely good, probably one of my favorite Fassbinder movies now. It'd been a very long time since I'd read the book so I didn't remember most of the details, but anyway, yeah, it was good as I said.
