All Around
Jul. 10th, 2022 10:14 amSo after hanging out at home a bit yesterday I went back out and picked my mom up from dialysis. My dad returned not too much later than that bringing Anthony back from camp. On the way home I stopped by Winchester Farmers Market for some erranding (and sodaing!). Oh and earlier I got official word that the Memphis date at the Hi-Tone on Matmos's tour was in fact not actually a thing so I don't have that to look forward to. In the evening Mary Beth and I went for a walk. The wind was actually blowing cooler so that was a little nice. I got a couple packages in the mail with some cds. One with Joji Yuasa: Aoi no Ue. One with some Creel Pones (/KWF): Ruth White: 7 Trumps from the Tarot Cards and Pinions/Flowers of Evil, Françoise Barrière/Christian Clozier: Ritratto di Giovane/Symphonie pour un Enfant Seul, Bernard Parmegiani/Josep Maria Mestres Quadreny: Espaces Sonores No. 1, and Keith Fullerton Whitman: STS. Then I did another night of trying to make two shows. This was probably the least successful (but for a dumb reason that shouldn't been a reason and then a dumb unrelated thing that was just annoying). So I start to go and I'm running slightly behind my schedule but not bad but then I get halfway there and realize I forgot to bring a mask so I had to turn around and was a good bit later than planned. And I get there, this is at that Scott Carter art installation thing I'd been to the past two weeks, and Alex Greene was playing with Kate Tayler (synth, two theremins, and violin). Well, I get there and they're playing and about two minutes later they're like "thanks, we're done" so I did a very bad job with that! All the other shows there had started about an hour after door time but they apparently went almost right into it. That was a bummer! Anyway, then I went to the Lamplighter to catch another show. This would have been fine but as I was about to walk in, I got my earplugs out to put them in and I heard the tinniest clink hit the ground. I know it was the loose attenuator in one of the earplugs and it fell out on the fucking gravelly sidewalk (/where it's a sloping driveway kinda thing for the adjacent parking strip) right there and I just knew there was no fucking way I'd find that. A guy came up to help me with some light even but, no, lost cause. So I go into the show with one damn functioning earplug. I made due by holding a finger up to the hole in the one while bands were playing but it was uncomfortable and obnoxious. I got to see all of Bangladeafy and they were really good, drums and synth and screaming, kind of a mathy, grindy, blasty thing (a little reminiscent of The Locust but not as grindcore, more dwelling on the weirder aspects but still leaning a little grind). I picked up a t-shirt and three cds: The Briefcase, Ribboncutter, and Housefly. Then it was The Pop Ritual and they were good and I stayed for a few songs but I was getting annoyed holding one finger up to one ear and it's kinda pushing in my ear and being even more uncomfortable and I just couldn't stay much longer so I went home. Good show, and I guess good attempt?
