ateolf: (The Metamorphosis)
Since going to the library sale on Friday, I'd been haunted by seeing this beautiful copy of The Tunnel by William H. Gass there. Now, I didn't get it because it's a book I already have (one of my favorites ever) but I was thinking SOMEONE should get that book, and it being a dollar wasn't it my duty as a human being to get it and pass it along to someone who would appreciate it? So I went back yesterday and it was still there so I got it! I also got some more one dollar books since they restock with stuff from the back in between the days. This time I also got: Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri, Distant Star by Roberto Bolaño, The Ten Thousand Things by Maria Dermoût, Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons, Correction by Thomas Bernhard, Death Sentence by Maurice Blanchot, Night by Elie Wiesel, Strong Opinions by Vladimir Nabokov, and The Major Works by Percy Bysshe Shelley. Later Mary Beth and I spent a bit of the evening sitting outside on the deck half-listening to the sounds of Beale Street Music Fest...since it's not actually anywhere near Beale St. this year, I guess because of all the digging up happening over at Tom Lee Park right now. But right now it's being held over at the fairgrounds (which I guess aren't fairgrounds anymore either...I guess I should say "Tiger Lane"?). One of the stages is aimed right in our direction (along with the proximity) so when stuff's playing on that one we can hear it pretty clearly. Also, friends could hear it pretty clearly from miles away in that direction over in Veca and Crosstown. Mostly it wasn't good music or anything, but kind of fun and funny to half hear it drifting over. We ended the night with the watching of some Gilmore Girls. Okay, think that's about it!
