Yesterday Mary Beth and I went to get our covid booster shots! So we go to the Pipkin center where we've always gone before and where they should be open and administering them, but we're sitting there for a little while in a line of cars and then find out that there's no one there. Someone had called and was told they didn't know if they'd be doing it that day and spread the word to others waiting around. So we quickly tried to look up to see where else we could do it. I was a little upset 'cuz I knew that no one cared or gave any trouble about your actual status there (as I'm not technically eligible yet, though Mary Beth fits some criteria), but we also found the Shelby County Health Center as a place to do it so we went over there and it ended up being very easy and they were very nice (was lacking the convenience of just staying in the car, but it was all good. They just seem happy to have people taking the shot. Once again feeling fine so far. Ooh and we even got a pin! After that we went and picked up lunch from Las Delicias. We took it over to Audubon Park right around the corner and ate there. It was a nice day (at least for a little bit then it started to almost start to rain but then stopped again and only really picked up when we were on our way home). We walked around the park enjoying the trees. I was going back to my memory of being a kid on a school trip there and playing tag or something and dodging in this weird way while on one of the little bridges over the little concrete ditch that ran through the park and flipping over and landing on my head in the concrete ditch (and the memory of blacking out for a second and everything becoming on tiny pinpoint of light...and then spending the rest of the day out of commission and in a lot of pain). Well, the ditch didn't seem to be there anymore. Did they fill it in and remove it? There was a bit of it at the far corner of the park and one bridge. I remembered it being longer and there being more bridges. I'm pretty sure they did something as I don't imagine a concrete ditch running along the side of a park is the nicest thing. (And it's not just my childhood memory, I have memories of driving by it throughout my adulthood and seeing the ditch and bridges and thinking about that time when I was a kid.) Anyway, later in the evening Mary Beth was craving some wings so we picked some up from Bayou Grill. Then we ate them while watching a pair of short documentaries: International Sweethearts of Rhythm: America's Hottest All-Girl Band and Tiny and Ruby: Hell Divin' Women. Different documentaries but they go together as a pair (same directors and the subjects of the second one were also members of the band that the first one focused on). So, it's an all female, integrated big band back in the 40s. Tiny was a key member and trumpet player so the second documentary focused on her and more of her solo career and her relationship with Ruby who was also in the big band. The first one didn't touch on homosexuality though there were a couple of small moments when it was very obliquely hinted at, then it was an open topic in the second one. Anyway, now on with the more weekend!
