I finished reading Yellow Street by Veza Canetti yesterday. It was really good. It's a shame it seems to be so under-known. She has a pretty distinct style, often rolling along with a light humor but with a pretty hard cynicism at core, but saying it that way doesn't really do it justice or really come close to getting across the effect. A couple things I forgot to mention in my last post. On Sunday, Mary Beth made Rosa Parks's pancake recipe and it was really good, peanut buttery and extremely light and fluffy. Also, as I was lying in bed the night before last before I got to sleep I had an idea for a story. I didn't want to get up or turn on the light and I had a pen and notebook by the bed so I grabbed it and wrote in the dark without being able to see what I was writing, just jotting down a note of the idea in case I'd forget later. I didn't forget later but it's always good to write down. And the writing was surprisingly legible (though it was bigger than I'd expected, probably overcompensating for the fact that I couldn't see).
