Crawfish Nostalgia
May. 3rd, 2020 09:01 amAfter emerging from a wikipedia k-hole in which she ended up reading about hapax legomena, Mary Beth wanted to watch the Hollis Frampton movie series Hapax Legomena. She'd asked me if I'd heard of him, and I'm like yeah, I have his Criterion dvd collection. Though there's a catch to that. I had gotten around to trying to actually watch it a good while after I had gotten it. And then I found out that one of the discs is completely cracked. Because of the long delay, I obviously couldn't send it back or anything. So I was kinda bummed having this thing I couldn't watch. Well, anyway she wanted to watch these movies, three of the series are in this collection and there was a 50/50 chance they were on the non-cracked disc. And they were! So we were actually able to watch them: (nostalgia), Poetic Justice, and Critical Mass. (nostalgia) was especially good and I loved the chopping/looping in Critical Mass, the effect on the dialog made it like music I'd listen to. We had another socially distant dinner with our neighbors on the back deck. They picked up boxes of crawfish from Bayou for us and we all ate crawfish and it was like we were able to have the annual crawfish festival after all. We ate and it was good and we talked a long time as the sun set into the night. Now it's a new day and there you go.
