I went up to Crosstown last night to see a double feature of Häxan and Deep Red. Häxan was lived scored by 1000 Lights. I'd never heard them before, but I like Russ's other bands. They get touted as "post-punk/goth." They're more just straightforward rock (with some very light post-punk leanings). Some of their stuff is pretty good (some wasn't too into), overall, you know, okay. The "score" was mostly just them playing their songs as the movie played behind them. They had a few parts that were more atmospheric or jammed out or whatever, but it was mostly pretty song-based. They mostly timed it to line up with the chapters or sections of the movie, but in generally it didn't go so much with the movie, or like it was more like it was a 1000 Lights show with Häxan playing than a Häxan screening with 1000 Lights playing. Overall it was cool and it is a great movie. Deep Red was interesting to see having seen it so recently (though there was a difference 'cuz Claudio Simonetti played to the shorter US version). It was kinda funny 'cuz in this transfer, you could see about exactly where the US version was as they did the transfer from two sources (I only half-read the explanatory text before the movie started), I think and maybe the English version was better quality but it was supplemented with Italian. So most of the sound was in English but bits were in Italian here and there. It was tough to make it through though and I ended up falling asleep through part of it towards the later end of the middle. But since I'd seen it so recently it felt less bad sleeping through a little bit of it. Then there was work today and that's about it.
