ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)
Mary Beth and I had a very moony day yesterday. We went up to the Pink Palace to watch that Apollo 11: First Steps. We were going to watch that then see something at the planetarium, but there was a long, slow line when we got there and even though we had ten minutes we weren't quite able to make it to the first showing. We ended up going to the planetarium first and the movie at a slightly later showing right after. So we killed an hour or so. Hadn't been to the planetarium since I was a kid. It's a lot different than the one they had when I was a kid, of course. But we got a nice little tour of summer constellations (I've always been bad about finding any constellations aside from the big dipper). The Apollo 11 movie was cool. A little similar to For All Mankind, except it focused just on the first moon landing (as the title says!), but there's a good bit of some of the same footage and a similar approach. Being about the one it was more directly narrative (For All Mankind is arranged in a bit of a narrative fashion, but it's an impressionistic narrative, whereas Apollo 11 was a more strict historical narrative). Later, with it having put For All Mankind into my head, we watched that at home. It was kinda cool seeing 'em both so close together for a little compare/contrast kinda thing. I did a little work on my Pierre Schaeffer tribute. I think the basic framework is complete, but I've gotta go in and maybe do a little filling in here and there. I went out to Tops Gallery to see a Total Works thing. First was Composer 4, I got there after he'd started so I didn't see his full set but it was good what I saw. James Walker was next and his set was kinda weird. He just played guitar over other recorded songs. His guitar playing was a little noisy and cool, but the karaoke aspect was kinda weird. Not necessarily in a bad way. There was a mixed reaction of: this is pretty awesome and I do not understand this. Next was Outside Source and he was good as he tends to be. Cities Aviv was last. Hadn't seen Gavin in this iteration in a good while and it was pretty awesome. He's gotten noisier with the Cities Aviv. At one point he crawled up into the recess up in the back wall of the gallery. Karl also came and we talked and hung out a bit. Now it's another day and I'm a little sleepy. Oh yeah. And almost forgot to mention this very music that I'm listening right now, I got it in the mail yesterday. The second-to-last installment of that birthday extravaganza: Au Pairs: Stepping Out of Line: the Anthology.
