Mary Beth and I went out to Ridgeway to see the Indie Memphis screening of Le Bonheur (the Agnès Varda movie). It was very good, hadn't seen it before (the only other of hers I'd seen is Cléo from 5 to 7, which is like one of my favorite movies now). I finished up my video editing for the fucked-up Tron to play during artists' sets. Today, instead of going to work I went to an all-day training class thing at a hotel like one block over from where I work. It had to do with SalesForce and it had nothing to do with the topic it said it was going to be about. It wasn't at all technical, it was more geared towards admins. And for me (and the others from my team who went) it was a complete waste of time. But the lunch was very good, hotel catering but pretty darn nice for that. Mostly barbecue, some good sides and all. I think that was paid by this other company who came and did a pitch while we ate. But it was enough to enjoy the food and politely disregard what they were talking about. After listening to a few boring demos (where I'm like, this feels unrelated but maybe we'll get to the good stuff later...), we broke off into groups to build an app (from an admin level doing templates and stuff, not like actually coding an app) and my group felt like kind of a disaster. It was me and one other developer from FedEx and a more business person from FedEx. The business person kept mixing up the objects and the ui aspects, which is fine and understandable for someone not technical, but she became very aggressive when any disagreement came up (not in a mean way though, if that makes sense, just vehement and assertive) and after a couple rounds of that I pretty much checked out. Then I couldn't even access any of the stuff we were working on. They recommended everyone becoming members of the same account, but they it turns out she could only add one other admin, but I didn't even have view access to anything we were working on and it became like "yeah, really no point in any of this" and again checked out even further, trying to find ways to waste time. Now I'm home, well fed, and I guess kinda had a "vacation" away from work, but definitely didn't get much of anything out of any of that. Oh yeah! And I came home to a couple new shirts in the mail: a Daphne Oram shirt with her face and "POW!" and one with the cover of the old Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center record (an album I don't actually have but the Columbia-Princeton related cd comp they came out with is one of my all-time informative albums ever).
