I went to a show last night, before that Mary Beth and I started in watching a little bit of Schitt's Creek. Satisfying Chris Elliott content. It was my first time going to Artemisia Studios (and it may be my last!). It might be shutting down soon due to the person in charge not paying rent for months. Gavin says they're trying to work out something but won't know for a couple weeks. He says he has other spots in the works as well. So we'll see. The show was good. David was there when I arrived so we hung out and talked a bit (mostly him complaining about the current project he feels he's been roped into that he really doesn't feel he has much in common with. Jacques showed up a little bit later and we also talked to him some between sets. First up was Beneviolence. His stuff was quite good, something of a dj set. It's a bit facile and I'm sure not quite right, but it made me think of something like shoegaze hip-hop. And that sounds like it might go in a trip hop direction or something, but that's not it. It's more like it's all kinda fuzzed out, or really more like scuzzed out. And other textural things going on too, but anyway it was good and stuff. Tire was up next and they were phenomenal as always. This was as good as the first time I saw 'em that blew me away so much. And both times it was in relatively small, concrete-laden rooms (though this one note quite as small as the literal hole-in-the-wall that is Tops Gallery). But it was feedback-drenched and intense. Just what I love in 'em. The next few acts were...okay. Reserving Dirtnaps was next. They're metal. Slightly noisy and feedbacky, but mostly just metal and not super exciting. People were into 'em though and the moshing really picked up here. I stayed away from that. There was some during Tire but only a couple people and I was able to stay up front. Last was Show Me the Body and they're from New York. They're also just a little bit noisy and a little bit feedbacky but mostly kinda boring hardcore. They're extremely energetic though so people were super into them and going all out with the moshing. And I'm just and old fogie who grew out of that sometime after seeing Helmet at age fifteen or whatever and forgetting my belt and my pants completely falling down in the mosh pit during the show (there's a free, fun anecdotal reminiscence for ya!). Anyway, for me it was all okay and not super-exciting but the first half of the show was great so it was definitely worth it. Got very little sleep but work was okay. Seems like there's a political element jumping in right now with this dude who's with Mule and being given a little bit of work that he's not really doing much of and holding a bunch of stuff up but then he's also on on an advisory capacity and listing a bunch of stuff from code reviewing our work (much of which is piddling though some things not) and sending it around to management. Not a big deal, but kinda goofy. We've just got a few t's to dot and i's to cross and we should be able to move along. Went on a walk to the park with Mary Beth after coming home today. It was nice!
