River Park
Jan. 19th, 2019 08:57 amYesterday afternoon Mary Beth and I went up to River Park for this fire pit thing they're doing on Fridays (she'd been wanting to go check it out but we hadn't yet had the chance). Walking up to it, I reminisced about that very brief period I lived downtown and Brad, Keith, and I went to what used to be called Confederate Park right across the street and up the bluff and that time we rolled down that hill (in a very ill-advised move but was kinda fun to do that one time in that stupid way). There were two little fire pits and a few people around. We sat down for a second but decided to sit on a bench and look at the river and talk. We'd brought a faux hot chocolate (really warmed chocolate milk) in thermoses and enjoyed that. Right before we left and right before the end of it, we went back to enjoy the warmth of the fire. They had s'mores they were giving people so we roasted marshmallows and enjoyed all that. I was going to go to a show later (actually there were two shows I'd wanted to go to that I had to decide between), but there were a few hours between before that would happen so we caught up on our stories and watched the latest episode of The Good Place and Brooklyn 99. Then I was just feeling cozy and tired and not really up to going out so I didn't. But it was a good night with Mary Beth. Also, was reminiscing about the first time I saw Sonic Youth live (looking back at the setlist from that first show I saw and how pretty damn amazing it was). And I was telling her about the spheres with lights they had for their light show and she couldn't quite picture what I was describing so I dug up some live videos from 95 on youtube and got to see that (which I hadn't seen in over twenty-three years) and compare and contrast to how it'd sat in my memory these years.
