Fright Night
Oct. 21st, 2018 11:48 amGot more work done on my music. Now over fifteen minutes, I'm over halfway through with this phase! Other than that, it was the big night of the drive in. It's October so of course it was a horror theme (and specifically vampire movies). First up was Lost Boys, which is as stupid and laughable as always. I don't remember the whole blatant Jim Morrison thing, but it was very noticeable and very stupid (like, the whole Jim Morrison lookalike lead actor with a Jim Morrison poster superimposed right next to his face in one shot...aside from the whole lookalike thing and The Doors cover not being over-the-top enough). Next was Fright Night which I'd never seen. It was pretty alright. It wasn't great or anything, but there were some things about it that were pretty good. The ending was a little ridiculous, but it was mostly okay. One of the times I went to the bathroom, I got distracted by someone flashing their headlights as I was walking over and ended up stepping in a puddle. This was annoying for the twofold reason of I was wearing my brand new shoes that are still nice and barely worn and don't wanna dirty up and also that it was cold and now my foot was pretty wet. Yeah, speaking of the cold, we were pretty well prepared with blankets and stuff. I should have brought my heavier coat though, it got a little colder than it's been especially as the night wore on (thankfully I found one of my hats right before we headed out the door, woulda been bad if I didn't have my head protected at all). After the halfway point we ended up packing up our chairs and moving into the car where it was easier to stay warmer. The Hunger was the next movie, I'd never seen it either. It was a bit silly (though trying to be very serious). There was less Bowie content than I'd expected. The editing and lighting and pacing are kinda weird but not in a particularly good way. Last up was Near Dark. This is the movie Mary Beth had been most looking forward to, the single movie out of the year's whole drive in lineup that she was most looking forward to. So there was a little delay before it was to start and the guy who runs it was going around to each car still there letting everyone know the sound on the dvd they were using wasn't working so they were going to have to switch it with another movie. Mary Beth was pretty upset by this but we were going to wait it out to see. It wasn't crazy late yet, between midnight and one. There was an unusually long pause. They ran the ten minute retro drive in clip twice. Then lo and behold they managed to get it working because Near Dark played after all! Mary Beth was happy about that. It was all over well before three and even though late wasn't super crazy late. Was able to sleep in and all that. So there you have it. It was a fun and successful (and cold) night at the drive in!
