On Triangles Release Show
Jun. 15th, 2018 07:58 pmLast night Mary Beth and I went up to the Concourse to see the Blueshift Ensemble play for the Iceberg composers (like last year). It was quite good. The first piece was especially good. Also, the people we were sitting behind, strangers, were talking about Memphis Concrète ("have you heard about...etc"). Then today was more work and busy trying to get stuff worked out. I wanted to leave early to get set up for the show at Shangri-La, and I did leave a little early but not as early as I'd planned, just enough time to grab my stuff and get there. I think my manager was giving me dirty looks because earlier he was talking about having to stay later if needed, but I made sure things were as much of where they needed to be first. Also, I already put in extra hours earlier this week, so. I got a call from Justin H. while on lunch. He's in town (with his family, including two daughters now) until tomorrow. Supposed to meet up tonight but waiting to hear back from him. Anyway, rushed home grabbed get and got to Shangri-La to set up. It went alright. I played with Jacques (Revenge Body). It was really hot. It cooled down with some clouds later, but we played first and it was hot. I was sweating all over my modular (I just brought one case for a simple setup). I tried to record it but may have forgotten to push the button. Either that or it got pushed after the set but it's likely I just forgot. We were pretty noisy. I felt it was a little haphazard 'cuz I'd barely any time to prepare. Oh, that's one thing I did last night right before and after we went out, hastily set up a patch. Argiflex and Pas Moi were next and they did a straight up noise beat. There were some of Argiflex's beats coming through at times, but usually pretty distorted. They were very noisy and loud. Last was aster and Kip Uhlhorn playing some modular acid. It was a good little show, all short sets. A few people came out. Saw Luís and his family. That's another thing. Talked to him last night on the phone and he's not moving to Atlanta after all. Had some clashes with his coworkers and put in his resignation yesterday. It's good they hadn't fully moved yet. And it's nice they'll be staying around at least a little longer. Now I'm home and cooling off. I should check for messages.
