House

The show last night with Nonconnah was pretty good. The music was good. I mean, it was literally all the bands playing to each other (and kind of the people who live there). So yeah, it was a house show at the house where Dominic used to live. As it's a weeknight I'm the only non-core member of Nonconnah who played. But yeah, first was Ben Ricketts playing some pop songs on guitar over prerecorded backing tracks. Next was Jack the Giant Killer doing his ambient guitar postrock that's really good. He projected The Phantom Carriage on the wall behind him. Next was Mike Honeycutt being amazing as always. He sat on the floor with a laptop and a guitar. Nonconnah played last. Zachary and Denny had arrived back in town from a two week tour earlier in the day. Denny was there but by the time we played was tired and slept on the couch instead of playing so it was just me and Zachary. It was a pretty nice and laid back performance. It felt pretty tense and awkward with the people who live at the house we played when we were first arriving. It seemed the "host" had forgotten about the show or something and was talking about having to pay a fee at first and being kinda stand-offish. As things moved along he became friendlier. He later explained he'd thought it was going to be a show with a lot of young people showing up so he was thinking a bunch of kids would be there trashing the place or whatever (hence the fee and the mood). But when he realized that wasn't the case he was cool. And yeah, literally no one else showed up. But it was good music by good musicians listening to each other play. It was late thought when I got home so I've been pretty damn tired today. But such is the "rock" "and" "roll" lifestyle. Oh yeah, and I picked up another cd from Mike Honeycutt before I got out of there: Kuwahara: Cultivation Series Volume One.
