Show

ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)
Went to a show last night to see Jack play (or uh Avery Vaughn) at Canvas. It was a pretty good time. Jacques was also there. I'd missed the first band but they were apparently straightforward rock. Jack was next and he was good as before with his abstract folk expressionism. Then there was a dj who I guess went by Dropshock. He did a kind of dubstep set and it was actually quite good. A food truck had set up in the parking lot and I eventually ordered some loaded naan fries (crispy strips of naan with stuff on top, good but kind of a "clean" and "healthy" version of fries). Blood Like Wine was next and they were alright. They had the guy who did the dj set playing bass with them (his dj set was good but his bass playing was way way overly busy). They also did a lot of covers (they opened with a Tool cover, yeah...and they did a cover of that Wallflowers song and the bass was playing double-time and it was very unnecessary...also some cover of a song that Mike insisted everyone knew the words to, but I didn't know what it was). Afterwards I bought their cd Strong Style and the singer/guitarist's book: Kinky Keeps the House Clean by Mari Deweese. The biggest adventure of the night was helping Jack get out of the parking lot. Canvas has a tiny parking lot and the food truck had parked diagonally across the whole thing, pretty much pinning Jack into what appeared to be an unleavable situation. Then as we're about to leave this drunk, obnoxious dude pulls up in a Mustang and parks next to him (mostly on the sidewalk) in such a way as to make the improbable impossible. Asked him to move so we could try to get out and he did agreeably, but after hangin' around a while blatherin' and hootin' and hollerin'. When we did get him out (myself guiding in the back and Jacques in the front) we did so in only two turns. I was impressed. Some precision backing up there! Then the guy came back and Jacques and I left. So that was a show! Oh yeah, and Mary Beth had finally found the GBA cartridge with the Mother 3 fan translation rom on it and was going to play earlier this week but it wouldn't save. So I figured out how to reinstall it in such a way as to get it to save and did that before the show so Mother 3 is happening and that's exciting, I say.
