Disaster Recovery

So, I had a job scare of job scares last night. I'm doing the preferences data re-load which, in order to sync data with another system (and syncing wasn't working when it was first loaded) I have to go and get all the records out there and delete them and then re-post them. It started off as a laid-back night and I was tired and ended up passing out early. Woke up after a few hours and was going to get ready for bed for real and checked on the progress only to find shit had gone very wrong in a way it hadn't before. Well, due to my error handling, a bunch of stuff got deleted and not re-posted. It ran three out of the four branches. The first and third did not re-post but the second one did. At first I didn't know what'd happened. And I was making a backup of everything (given the risky nature of deleting everything first, and I couldn't delete and re-post one at a time because the requests could get out of order when it went into the data stream). But I checked the backup and at first thought only the first branch was backed up and the backup also failed on the third branch. And I was really fucking panicking. At first I figured I'd regroup in the morning and couldn't do anything and tried to go back to sleep. But I couldn't sleep so I followed up and realized the backup did work right and was able to write some code to utilize it and re-post what didn't go through. Then I started back the regular load on the branches that needed it and went back to sleep finally. Working from home 'cuz it's still loading and I can't move my computer around while the load is happening. So I went from feeling like the worst loser in the world to a big hero (I know that's ridiculous, but hey, I could use this right now!). It's on the last branch so we'll see how long it takes before I can head on in.
