I for one am really excited about the results in Alabama. I get all the things people say about still how close it was and "oh Doug Jones isn't even that left" but, I mean, this is fucking Alabama (not to disparage the state too much since I'm in Tennessee and all). But Sessions wasn't just picked because of his "winning personality." Among the reasons he was picked is the extreme unlikelihood of his replacement not being a republican. This is a hard line red state. I'd been following this race a little bit since even before Ray Moore's pedophile scandal. When I started following it it was partly because Doug had a (small) chance even back then. That alone is significant. Maybe he wouldn't've won if the controversy didn't break out, but he would have probably been closer than recent history says he should have. And you can see just how absolutely little difference the substantial pedophilia accusations made with republicans. He might not keep his seat next time around, I'm sure the republicans will try to come back much smarter, at least here, but I don't think the implications for the rest of the map are insignificant. It does follow some trends seen in other states. And then there's the Trump angle. First, his endorsement lost to Moore in the primary. Then he went full-on backing Moore in recent weeks. Alabama was one of his strongest states in the general. It's another sign of the trajectory of his dissipating influence. But yeah, it was close in a race that "should" (somewhere other than Alabama) have been a shoe-in against a man with varied and substantial pedophile accusations. But it still feels really good to have won. Also, even the whole pedophilia thing feels ALMOST like a distraction from his egregious racism and pro-slavery and repeated negligence of duty and upholding the law and being an all-around vile piece of filth. Ray Moore is certified scum at every level. I don't know where I was going with that other than just to remind. I didn't organize that very well and it kinda fell out of place at the end. Anyway, it's not like it's breaking news anyway! We were watching Halt and Catch Fire and I'd keep going back to my phone to watch the results trickle in. Jones had a big lead way way too early. Then it was obliterated for a while. But somewhere in the middle he started to catch up and it was REALLY close. Then I come back to the news he'd won! Everyone was right about it being a "nail biter." Anyway, work today was alright. Some stuff finally started to get worked out. And we seem to be in good graces with everyone about missing our objectives. It was out of our hands and we did show due diligence in being the only team that had stuff in queue on time before the pi to be worked on (for this systems team). And reasons were identified as to why the systems team was behind in processing our work. It was still a little frustrating but I think at least for now things are alright. Hopefully we're about ready to actually get these things just done and done. Came home to Twin Peaks: a Limited Event Series on blu ray which I'm excited about! Alright, there ya go!
