Mary Beth and I went up to the hospital last night to see my mom. Her blood pressure's been going down when she stands up so she gets dizzy and that's what happened early early yesterday morning so she fell and hit her head. She was bruised really badly (she bruises easily) and she looked pretty bad, but according to her she looked worse than she felt (saying she thought she was okay til she saw herself in the mirror). She was released earlier today so they're back home now. After getting groceries on the way back home, I picked up some Deli food for a nice greasy late-night snack.

Today's been pretty busy up til now. First I got up and did some errands on my own: got Horace's fluids, got my oil changed, and picked up some meat from the store. The guy at the oil change place was super-friendly and when he saw my drum key on my keychain, he asked how long I've been playing drums. So when I thought about it and told him and he seemed amazed and asked if I had any old drum sets I'd wanna sell (the answer, being 23 years), I realized there's a good chance my drum set is older than he is which, yeah yeah, everything starts to make you feel old at this age. Mary Beth and I went up to the book festival together and we went to see a panel called "Unhappy in its Own Way" about writing about family. There were four writers: Gint Aras, Ed Tarkington, Rebecca Makkai, and Cole Lavalais. They all read a piece from their work and then there was the panel discussion and the questions and responses were good. Really enjoyed most of the writers and ended up getting some books afterwards: Music for Wartime, The Hundred-Year House, and The Borrower by Rebecca Makkai and The Fugue and Finding the Moon in Sugar by Gint Aras (I would have gotten Cole Lavalais's book but Mary Beth had already purchased it and the other guy's reading was pretty good too but I was already picking up a bunch of stuff and his didn't grab me quite as much). Grabbed some mempops popsicles on the way out and had some delicious delicious popsicle juice leak all over my hands and clothes. I went by myself to Sarah's birthday party as Mary Beth had something else to go to. There were a bunch of people there and kids and dogs and it was a good time. Funny that she lives just around the corner from the other Sara(h) I know. No real point to that anecdote or anything. After being there a little bit I went back over to Overton Square to catch another panel. Funny 'cuz right after I parked and I was getting out of my car, Mary Beth walked by on the sidewalk. This time we went to see Greg Sestero talk about his new book about being in The Room (right, THE The Room and we got to see none other than Mark himself! Oh hi Mark). It was a pretty short one but it was pretty entertaining. The best part was he brought with him the first draft of the screenplay and had some people from the audience come up to act out a few scenes from it. It was pretty great. Now we're back home. Okay. Great.
