ateolf: (zoo and you)
The show last night went pretty damn well. We got together a little before to run through the set. We got a late start so we only ran a few "choice" songs (where we thought we might mess up more) and we nailed 'em so off to the show. Just as the touring band was setting up, Ryan did a verbal idiot check asking if we'd brought the drum machine and its cable (check, yeah, I remembered packing that). But the drum machine's power adapter? I had no memory of packing it. So I missed the first part of their set driving back home, but sure enough I had forgotten that (and that would have messed up our set not being able to play the drum machine! Especially seeing that we used it on most of the songs.). So Ryan totally saved the day on that one! But I did get back to catch a good bit of Skeleton Farm's set and they were really good live. And their last song was fucking great. It was this slower build-up that was super-nice. Okay, then it was us. We'd never played The Lamplighter before, but we designed our set around its limited space by choosing songs that don't use real drums. Here they are!:

Fall Behind
Ambient
John Carpenter Ripoff
Histrionics
Battle Chant

It was probably the best "Histrionics" has ever gone live. But I dunno, I haven't listened back to it yet. All in all we were pretty damn on it and we played a good set. I was giving it my fucking all on "Battle Chant" as is my wont and when I screamed the last line I got one of those exertion headaches. At least I didn't have to sing anymore! I managed to hold it together to make it through the rest of the song, but after the set I had to take a break. It didn't last too long though. And on a related note, I don't think I have any voice today. The crowd was pretty decent for a place as tiny as The Lamplighter. I spent more than half the set with my back to the audience at the synth tower so I'm not sure how much people stayed around while we played. We got a pretty good reception, at least by the touring band. They had an either buy-a-shirt-and-get-a-vinyl or buy-a-vinyl-and-get-a-shirt deal. I don't typically do vinyl but I wanted a shirt so I went for that. Ended up getting two shirts! One for each design. Also the whole band was nerding out over my synths. Haha, I would've done the same (and I guess I've been doing just that for these past years!). Anyway, the whole thing was a lot of fun. People like David and even Brad came out! It was really good to see Brad especially, don't see him too often and especially nice to see him at a show. We finished playing before midnight but there was hanging out for at least another hour. Then after unloading it was time to pass out! So I peeled off my sweaty clothes and crashed. But then some goddamn mosquitoes had gotten in the house as we were loading gear in. Argh! They were making it a little difficult to get to sleep. But I eventually did and even slept in late (til just after 11, wow). But the cats are being jerks this morning and not eating, acting like they'd been horribly starved and their stomachs are disintegrated (but we fed them extra last night so they got food about 8 hours ago, you know, normal, damn cats).
