Mary Beth and I went to meet my parents for a fancy dinner out at Pasta Italia. My dad got some gift certificates when he retired and this one was about to expire at the end of the year. Sadly, my dad couldn't actually make it. My sister had said she'd babysit her kids while we went out and she unsurprisingly never showed up. So he had to stay behind with the kids, but my mom was there. Pasta Italia is a pretty fancy place. The name makes it seem like it'd be something else. It's a pretty small dining room and we were the only people there last night. It was a Tuesday, after all. The food was really really good. Fancy good, but it all tasted great. My mom told us some news about my dad but I'm going to wait to see what information develops. Anyway, had a good time with mom and the food. After coming home I finished reading The Shoe Tester of Frankfurt by Wilhelm Genazino. It was really good. A nice existential flâneur (thanks to Mary Beth for setting me up with that work, though the back cover uses it, I don't like reading synopses or back covers before reading a book if I can help it) with a simple but well-written style and a good dose of subtle humor. Been well-occupied at work. This morning John and I were literally the only two people in the room we're in (bunches of people are at a training this week and all other full employees were at an all-hands meeting). Sharon snagged us some Servicemaster Rubik's cubes from the meeting. Yeah.
