The Family Ghost practiced yesterday. It was pretty good. Kinda short. I actually spent a good bit of time in the morning setting up a Slack account for the band. Scheduling this last practice was such a goddamn hassle. I also have a google calendar for us linked in. Let's move to the future! Paul and Ryan still haven't joined it though...grrr. Things will be much better when they do. Speaking of Slack, I got into the Tennessee for Bernie team. I tried to integrate this thing called sameroom, which can link up two separate channels (even on different teams), so I made a room in Memphis for Bernie that linked up to the #general channel in the state team. It was cool at first, but then it turns out there's a damn limit of 30 messages per hour (rope you in and then start asking for the money!). Well, so there were a couple kinda jokey comments at first 'cuz it uses a bot to post the external comments, and next to the person's name and origin it says "bot" (in a slightly smaller font and different color). So there was a little "are you a robot?". Then after the limit was reached, there was a message about the limit being reached and needing to upgrate, etc. And somebody thought it was talking about Slack in general. Anyway, it ended up bringing more confusion than anything else. The dream died. I did move it over to the #memphis- channel on the TN side, which doesn't get much activity and is less in the way. But it SEEMED like a cool idea. My attempts at working on the new design for memphisforbernie.org haven't been successful so far. I got a similar wordpress theme and tried modifying it, but the structure is so convoluted it's hard to find where the element I'm looking to change even is. I think I'm just going to start from scratch. And say "fuck you" to wordpress. If I have to pay for another hosting I'll do that. Screw it. Anyway, practice yesterday. That was alright. Not long at all. Jacques had an appointment where he couldn't make it at the "scheduled" time (which was moved around to fuck anyway) and he still beat everyone else. We went through the set once pretty much and then packed up. Sounding pretty alright so whatever.
The rest of the evening yesterday was down in Mississippi at Patrick's house for boardgames!!! I had an awesome plan of picking something up from Lady Bugg since it's kind of in the area, but the damn place closes on 3 Saturdays! (Thankfully Mary Beth had the idea to check first. We would have gotten there between 3:30 and 3:45 so yeah, just missing that shit.) Well, used Muddy's as a backup plan. Donna made some food and we got down to gaming. We started with Tsuro (Patrick never ceases to rag on Mary Beth 'cuz she gave it a low score on boardgamegeek). It was a fun game. Everyone died. There was a cluster where Patrick, Donna, and I were all up against the same empty space. Patrick laid a tile that killed me but put him and Donna across the board on the same empty space as Mary Beth. The only move left killed the rest at once. Next was Settlers of Catan! They had never played before! So it was really fun to introduce them to it. Ended up actually being a really long game. The robber kept happening so so much. But it was a really fun game. Patrick was dominating. And he was about to win. He was set up where he was getting five wood if an 8 rolled, and it rolled a bunch. Well, he'd built up so much and he was going to win the game when it got around to him. He literally had 15 wood cards. Well, Mary Beth played the monopoly development card and took those 15 cards (with a 3:1 port, of course, that translates to five of whatever the fuck you want...i.e. free city!) and literally stole the game from him and won. It was actually pretty exciting and badass. Even for me who just pretty much spent the whole game at a steady few points behind Patrick. We also played Pandemic and it seemed like we were doing well. We'd kept the disease pretty well at bay. Not many outbreaks, but we just ran out of the cards shortly before we could win. That game. We played Timeline. Had a real good showdown against Patrick. That was the one game that I won for the night. It was Donna's least favorite. We played this game called Rummikub. Seemed goofy at first, but after it got along I realized the puzzle aspect and it was pretty darn cool. Also it was apparently an usual game in that it took almost everyone forever to even get their tiles out on the table. It took Donna the longest, but then once she was in she just started clearing it out and was the winner. I can't remember any other games so that's probably it. Had a great time. Hope we get to gaming some more with them again.
