Last night Mary Beth and I went to the micro cinema thingie at Crosstown Arts. They were showing shorts from the Rural Routes festival thingie (good word, "thingie"). All the films, naturally enough, centered around rural areas. For the most part the films were really good. The only downside was the audience reaction to the one that was my favorite (Brimstone Line). I understand their not liking it, but as it went on they started getting rude as fuck making noises and talking. The movie was nonverbal and lacking any sort of narrative. It was just a series of shots of a stream. There were three wooden frames with wire grids in a line set up for each shot. And the camera framed the surroundings through these grids. The people were really pissing me the fuck off 'cuz it was really good. I mean, don't like/understand something, fine. But don't just assume that because you don't get or enjoy it that no one else is capable either. Anyway, blugh. Found out how dumb I am playing Mother. I'd had a plastic bat for a while and it wasn't til I got the wooden bat that I realized I'd never even equipped the plastic one! (Also, I bought it when I could've gotten it for free, I just overlooked a clue like a dummy...no wonder it was so hard to start leveling up right at the very first). Anyway, this cd isn't very good. Which is a bummer 'cuz I really like her work elsewhere: Scissor Girls and Bride of No-No and the other solo album of hers (Music for Scattered Brains). Ah well.
