Liverpool, Liverpool...
Nov. 20th, 2014 01:00 pmOn Tuesday I got The Units: History of The Units - the Early Years 1977-1983. Mary Beth recently got me into them and then I find out their stuff hasn't ever been put out on cd. THEN I found out that someone did put out a comp a few years back that's now out of print and a little hard to come by and a little expensive, but I managed to get it down. Well, I guess it wasn't that hard to get just a little expensive, but I'm excited about it. Okay, so yesterday we partook in downtown dining week. We had tea at Chez Philippe. At night we had dinner at Bluefin. So that was some good eatin'. In between the two, we watched The Long Day Closes and it was fucking great. If you were to look at it based on cinematography and framing and lighting and composition alone, it's one of the best movies ever. The use of sound was great (even with music I wouldn't be crazy about on its own). Some of the best tracking shots/camera movement I've ever seen. It did an incredible job of portraying memory. It was fragmented and non-narrative. It's probably one of my favorite movies now.
