After work yesterday I assembled Mary Beth's new vanity that was delivered a few days ago. Its reviews suggested that it was notorious for being difficult to assemble. At first it got a bit frustrating, because the instructions were a little...well... Okay, each "step" was just a picture that had a varying degree of actual steps shown within (no words to speak of, just pictures). The first "step" had something like fifty steps shown. I think "step" was just whatever they were physically able to draw in a box of a certain size at one time. Also, while the wood pieces were clearly labled with the approprite letter, the screws were not. You just had to look at the indicated measurement and compare screws (like, "the screw indicated has the smallest measurements of them all, let me compare screws side-by-side until I determine which one looks the smallest"). As I went along, that sort of stuff got easier as I got a feel for it, but pretty frustrating at first. Also, I did mess up twice. Early on, when I first started putting pieces together, I got one upside down or backwards or something (this was after screwing and glue and stuff went into it). I managed to undo stuff and fix it, but one of the screws in a precariously thin spot stripped the little bit of wood it was going into. Also, at the end when I was putting the slidey part on the drawer, I screwed the pieces in on the top instead of on the bottom. Oops. At least those extra holes are in places that don't get seen. Anyway, other than that, in just a couple hours I assembled a fully function, sliding vanity in just a few hours! The mirror on top slides and the drawer slides and the chair opens up. It looks pretty nice too, even though it's pretty cheap, it has a nice minimal design. I'll also throw in that while working, Mary Beth pulled out some of my old mixtapes to listen to. Damn, I know it's egotistical and all, but I'd forgotten how awesome I am at making mixtapes! Obviously there's the impeccable taste in music (heh, or at least, of course it's music I picked so I'd like to listen to it), but then the transitions! Such perfect song transitions. Uh, anyway, I finished with time for us to go to the Broad Ave. Art Walk. At first it didn't seem as good as last year. It was fun seeing the tons of people that showed up for it. I did get some goodies from Muddy's. Then we found art and stuff across the street down in the pit. Mary Beth picked up a bunch of these prints that were on wood blocks. I picked up a bright, splotchy piece. Then we stopped at this food truck because I saw people with their cheese fries and they looked amazing. Well, this food truck was popular and not very well managed to handle the large volume. We stood there waiting 45 minutes to an hour to get our cheese fries (rosemary parmesan cheese fries). And they were good, but the insane wait made it a little anticlimactic. Well, now it's a nice Saturday and we're gearin to do stuff.
