A Day in Nashville
Mar. 9th, 2014 04:14 pmFriday night I went back to Spin Street to use that trade-in money, so I picked up a couple cds on clearance: Bruce Haack: The Electric Lucifer and Jim O'Rourke: The Visitor, and I picked up a couple used cds: Dillinger Is Dead, The Complete Jean Vigo, and A Clockwork Orange (the newer two-disc with bonus stuff that I don't have).
Okay, anyway, yesterday was our trip to Nashville to see Visitors (the new Godfrey Reggio movie with Philip Glass yet again on board for the score). The drive up was alright, going smoothly and traffic was better than usual at first, but there was a bad wreck that held us up a bit more towards Nashville. When we got in we ate at this place called The Pharmacy ("Nashville's Wurst-Burger Joint"). They also had a classic soda fountain. It was pretty awesome. Then we went to this tea place run by hippies called High Garden. We shared a pot outside though I accidentally bumped the little table and spilled tea (not all of it, naturally, just a little, but I think I embarassed my wife). Then we went to Grimey's. I picked up a few things: Swans: Feel Good Now, Kluster: Zwei Osterei, Conrad Schnitzler: Rot, Conrad Schnitzler: Blau, and Mount Kimbie: Cold Spring Fault Less Youth. Okay, then to the Belcourt to see the movie. I thought it was good, not as good as the first two Qatsi movies but better than Naqoyqatsi (which I don't even think is necessarily bad in spite of its weakness). Philip Glass's score was really great. I like that it was, generally speaking, the same type of film as the others but it had a somewhat different approach. Afterwards we walked around the area a little bit, popped in a bookstore (though I didn't get nothin'). Then we went to this place called Calypso and had some Carribean type food. Then we went to try a fancy bar, but there was an indefinite wait in an outside that smelled like fish and vanilla. I found a barcade that was a few blocks away called Two Bits so we tried it out. I was a little disappointed by the arcade part. Only a few games in the back and mostly the place was a relatively upscale type frat bar and the games seemed a gimmick or afterthought. Though their drinks were apparently good, so I'll concede the bar part to them.
Back home, this morning...errr...afternoon, we had brunch at Local. It was really good. That's about it for now.
