Had a great time on our quick little trip to the west coast for Nikole and Andy's wedding. Shawna drove us to the airport not too long after I got home from work. The flight out wasn't too eventful. Wanted to nap, but the plane from MEM to DFW is some newer kind I've never flown on with uncomfortable seats. I more than made up for it on the second leg. I actually passed out before take off and slept through the damn thing. Kinda blew my mind when I woke up. I slept for almost all of that flight. We got to San Diego pretty late. I think our flight was a little behind schedule too. We were worried about getting our rental. And the rental company was closed by then, but we had talked to some of the people driving the rental shuttles and they pointed us to the company we rented with's parterner companay and we were still able to use our reservation to rent. On the way to the motel we fulfilled Mary Beth's dream of eating at In N Out Burgers. It was good stuff for fast food. Still not as good as Five Guys or Culver's, but good. You could taste a level of quality. We found our motel and slept and stuff. It seemed pretty sketchy at first 'cuz there was someone banging on someone's door for a while while we were waiting for the guy to come back and get us our room. But it ended up being fine.
Saturday was our day of hanging out in the city. Not so much San Diego as the suburb Chula Vista, where all the wedding action was at. The itinerary for the day was pretty much eat a bunch of tacos at a bunch of places. The first place we made it to had really really good lamb rib tacos. Then we ate at this place that was a weird lunch counter kind of thing (Tacos del Gordo, or something like that, it's from Tijuana). They had excellent beef head tacos. We went to check out the place where the wedding was gonna be at. Then we drove down and found a little beach and park. We hung out there a few minutes enjoying the weather. Then we checked out this cd/game store around the corner from our hotel. Used stuff. It was neat that they had a bunch of old games, like NES stuff and shit. They had a lot of music, didn't sift through it all so I didn't find much, just: Stars of the Lid: And Their Refinement of the Decline. Drove around a little more. The first place we tried to go when we initially started off was a food truck famed for their fish tacos. We couldn't find it and proceeded with what I'd mentioned earlier. Well, nearby where it was supposed to be was some other food truck. We thought we'd try that. Well, then we had a stroke of luck because we did find the first food truck. It was good and Mary Beth was very happy. Okay, so we're about to the wedding. We also found a nifty Mexican candy store on the way back.
The wedding was at a nature center on the coast. I'll just say this may be the best wedding I've been to yet! It was a lot of fun. We met some other of Nikole's friends and they were fun. Aside from the wedding's own awesomeness, there was a fucking shark and ray tank. Then there was an exhibit with all other kinds of sea creatures like crabs and alligator turtles and weird shrimp and morae eels and jellyfish and stuff. It ruled. For the reception...more tacos! They also had a photo booth and we had fun shootin' pictures up in that junt. There was a Katamari Damacy theme. Mary Beth and I danced to "Blue Monday." All in all, just a great time. Made our brief jaunt beyond worth it. Caught the shuttle back to our car before they quit for the night and back to the motel.
Well, this morning was a little bit of a disaster or near-distaster. I did a bad job of calculating time and we barely barely barely made it on our plane. Already running behind, things too real long. The airport didn't label where our airline was supposed to be so we walked the wrong way and had to go all the way back down. Line through security was fuck-off long. After we got through we were running to find our gate. Then we get there and think all's well 'cuz for some reason they're only now still boarding. Well, there were two gates right next to each other and this one was blocking the view of the empty gate right next to it. When they announced something about Chicago we realized our mistake. We made it on, but I'm sure everyone on the plane hated us. It was okay though 'cuz we still made it to DFW ahead of schedule. But it was tight and Mary Beth was pissed at me (justifiably so). Anyway, rest of the trip was non-eventful. We got home in good time and, well. Here we are. It's gettin' cold now.
