ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)
There was some recording on yesterday. First, Jacques and I worked on this delay stutter breakdown in the middle of "Histrionics" (Jacques had the idea inspired by "Flashing" off the Tenebre soundtrack). Spent a bit of time getting those five seconds to sound right, but we ended up with something that sounded cool. I had to do a good bit of simultaneous button pushing and volume pedal moving to get it to work right. After that we put my new synth part on the song Paul sings. The whole effect of this part is to sound like something that's backwards (performed live with the envelopes doing that work). So the shorter notes and the longer notes get knob adjustments. I'm able to do this live, but for the recording, I played each type of note separate so I could keep one consistent perfect setting. Ended up laying my simple part down on three tracks (another one was for the chorus part where I hold out a noisy pitch modulated note). Anyway, that got done. Ryan showed up too but didn't have nothin' to do. We keep getting closer with this thing anyway. Mary Beth and Jacques and I went and got pizza at Rock'N Dough. Then I got a little hour's break playing Earthbound! Then we went to Three Angles for Paul's birthday karaoke thingie. Something must've been going on, our group was the only people there. Well, it did mean I got to sing A LOT! I did "Shot by Both Sides" (Magazine), "Metal Postcard" (Siouxsie and the Banshees), "Super Bad" (James Brown), "I Believe (when I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)" (Stevie Wonder), "Roadrunner" (The Modern Lovers), "My Pal Foot Foot" (The Shaggs), and "In the Air Tonight" (Phil Collins). My "modest" vocal abilities were shot after the James Brown. I had a headache for a couple minutes after sitting down too. I mean, I always sing badly, but there was some damage coming through my voice. Oh well. It was fun. I especially butchered the Stevie Wonder. Apparently, only like two people had ever sung The Shaggs song. David was there and that was awesome. The highlight was when Paul sang "Downtown." I think that's the one he did super awesome on. Anyway, now it's Sunday. Must get into Sunday super-work mode.
