Karaoke Overground
Jun. 30th, 2013 05:03 pmJacques came over yesterday and we worked on a little recording for "Histrionics." The goal was to get my synth stuff down, so first we laid down the bass di'ed as a scratch/guide track (and it sounds so bad/fuzzy we kept laughing whenever we heard it played back). Then I recorded my Taurus parts (with a couple extra notes to accenuate the bass in a couple parts). We laid down the Prophet arpeggios (good thing we'd figured out how to sync to the recorder's midi when we laid down the drum machine! what we did would've been impossible otherwise). We ended up doing it an octave up from the previous recording (even though it sounded best that way on its own, it blended too much with the other parts and wasn't too distiguishable/was a little bit muddy). We also did an extra track of a single lower note clicking along plus even another track of just noise clicking along (like an extra little drum parts, these extras are to be mixed in and out at times). After that we went to go out to eat with Mary Beth. We took a bit of a circuitous route. We wanted to try out Ethiopian Restaurant (yes, that's its name) out in Cordova, but they were having a private party. We tried Las Tortugas as it wasn't too far, but they were about to close. We ended up eating at Las Delicias. Later we all went to 3 Angles for karaoke. I'd never been to theirs and it's kind've insane some of the songs they have. It's mostly standard karaoke fare. I ended up singing "Steelworker" (yes, Big Black) and "Needles in the Camel's Eye" (more Eno). They also had a Shaggs song, Magazine, Wire, Subhumans, "Metal Postcard" (and some other Siouxsie songs, but THAT!). Probably some other surprising stuff, but that's what I'm remembering now. My Eno rendition actually cleared the room. Went to the gym this afternoon. Feelin' good and stuff. That's about it for now.
