Quiet Desperation
May. 26th, 2013 02:48 pmFriday evening I went over to Sarah's for a little post-year gathering with burgers. Then yesterday the band practiced. We went through the Chicago set three times. After that we went to eat at Las Delicias. After THAT, I met Jacques and Josh at the pandh for a show. The first band was from out of town and called Shut Up. They were just kind of bland. Next was Vanishing Islands. They were okay. Somewhat straddling the lines of punk and prog (but not in an awesome way like This Heat). The keyboard player had a somewhat interesting setup. He had a computer loaded with soft synths being controlled by three stacked midi keyboards. He was definitely more a keyboard player than a synth player, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. They had a bit of stuff that was pretty good. After them was Vibrolas, who Rocked and had lots of shredding. Jacques liked it but it was one of the worst things I'd been subjected to in a good while. Last was The Switchblade Kid. They were just kind of generic proto-punk rock and roll (but one of the more generic and boring 70s rock bands). I was nodding off during their last few songs, but that was 'cuz it was after 1 am. My body still thinks I'm a teacher. It was fun. I talked to Josh a lot. The gym was this morning. Got there as soon as they opened. Well, I say "morning," but they open at noon. Anyway, guess we're caught up.
