Mary Beth and I went upstairs to our neighbors' for a Memorial Day thingie. It's the first time I've really hung out with 'em I guess. I ated much food. Then later we went around and ended up at Hastings. I got a few books: The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley, Numbers in the Dark and Other Stories by Italo Calvino, A Cool Million and The Dream Life of Balso Snell by Nathanael West, David Golder, The Ball, Snow in Autumn, The Courilof Affair by Irène Némirovsky, and The Notebooks of Don Rigoberto by Mario Vargas Llosa. I just got a call from Humes Middle School. The person calling was taking over calling duty for someone else and it was a we'll call back to set up an interview thing. I interviewed with this school last year and it went pretty badly. I wonder if they'll remember me. Blegh.
