busy day today! got up and got my oil changed, then Mary Beth and i went and checked out the big friends of the library book sale...it wasn't as lucrative for me as it's been in past years...i got a few books, they were cheap, but most of 'em i taked on 'cuz i felt silly spending only 50 cents or 1 dollar, so i ended up with: The Garden of Eden by Ernest Hemingway, Some Prefer Nettles by Junichiro Tanizaki, Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, Giving Birth to Thunder, Sleeping with His Daughter by Barry Holstun Lopez, and A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf...then we went next door to the regular libarry bookstore where i had better luck (of course at a tad higher price): Patrimony by Philip Roth, The Complete Stories by Zora Neale Hurston, Corrigan by Caroline Blackwood, The Child in Time by Ian McEwan, Mosquitoes by William Faulkner, Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus by Ludwig Wittgenstein, Reasons to Live by Amy Hempel, and Tristessa by Jack Kerouac...then we picked up some food at the csa and then, our big adventure!:

so i'd heard there's actually a filipino restaurant in the surrounding area...millington...i looked it up and we had to go since we had that cuisine once in chicago and it was ballstompingly amazing...so we went...stopped off at the goodwill in millington while out there, for kicks...it was kind of bizarre to me...the people there, it makes sense as it's in fuckin' millington, but i felt more out of place than usual...it had this redneck/country/saltoftheearth feel where i guess (in my "urban" experience) thrift stores naturally feel more "urban"...i think it was also in the way everyone carried themselves (where i only subconsciously noticed it at the time): erect and purposeful, versus slouched and dejected...i dunno, even though i know i'm on an island in a sea of country, it felt a little weird...i should spend more time in millington, or not...so then to game stop in millingon...there's a backstory to this: a few weeks ago i was looking for this PS2 game: Rule of Rose...it's by the same developers (Punchline) who did Chulip (newly one of my favoritest games ever...) well, this game is kind of hard to come by now and can get pretty expensive...game stop has that feature where you can check to see if any of the stores in your area have a particular game in stock used...they were showing that game in millington...well fuck, i was all set to go on my off day a few weeks ago, but first, as it's a bit of a drive, i decided to call the store first in case i wouldn't waste so much gas to check 'cuz the online thing can make mistakes...so i call and ask and they said they didn't have it...well, i was sad and bothered by this...i only this week heard about the filipino restaurant and since i'd be in millington why the fuck not just swing by and check!? so i did and sure enough, they had it! i felt so vindicated! of course i picked it up and i also picked up The Legend of Kage 2 for the DS (the original on the NES, i feel to be a much unfairly maligned game...many people just don't understand what makes it awesome! hopefully this one's good...) so anyway, we're driving around looking for this other thrift store and are having trouble finding it but we stumble on this asian store and we stop by...i know Mary Beth has been dying to find lucky cats for forever and i was curious if we'd have luck there and sure enough they had 'em! i know she's happy and relieved about that lifelong search coming to fruition! then we're driving up and down Navy Rd. searching for the filipino place and not having any luck so i called 411 and got the address...it's been closed! just an empty store now! that was a little depressing, but the trip was worth it solely on the merit of finding Rule of Rose (for me) and of finding the lucky cats (for Mary Beth, i know...) instead we had some good barbecue at the Barbecue Shop when we "got back in town"...then we went walking and that was good...
