a drop to twenty...
Jan. 2nd, 2010 08:44 pmwednesday night i finished reading Summer Blonde by Adrian Tomine...my first comic book to read...and it was good...maybe i'll read more...still prefer the old fashioned type of book, but i'm not opposed to the medium as a whole as i have been in the past...then thursday, that day being new year's eve, i finished reading The Last Temptation of Christ by Nikos Kazantzakis...it was okay...the movie was better...there were good parts or things in it, but overall it was too long and for the most part i didn't find it that interesting...i know i exceeded my goal of books to read for the year, though i'm not sure of the actual number right now...it's in the eighties...at night Mary Beth and i went to Paul and Shawna's for a little bit of new yearness...got a gift of Raising Arizona/Fargo double feature dvd thingie...
then came yesterday, being new year's day, and it was a fun day...we started with lunch buffet at pho hao binh with Jacques and Amber...then we met up with Dustin and Courtney and went to Winchester Farmer's Market (as told about to us by Paul and Katie the night before...) i've driven by it many many times but have never been...it's not an actual farmer's market but an international supermarket...it's huge and has tons of stuff...tons! they have cases of mexican coke! and much other soda we're familiar with as made better in other countries with cane sugar...the produce section is extensive and has tons of stuff we'd never heard of (and Mary Beth ain't no novice neither) and they have a tortilleria where they make fresh tortillas right there...we tried their samples and it's easily the best fucking tortillas i've ever had...so soft...i can't describe how good these tortillas were...of course we took some home with us...the two countries with the biggest representation are mexico and korea...there's a bit of indian as well...and then there'll even be random french and other miscellaneous stuff here and there...i was a little surprised korea had the largest representation in the asian half of the store, but i guess there are other small asian markets that already fill the other niches...and the place is huge, it's not like it's all korean and mexican, those are just the two largest examples...not much mediterranean, but i also guess that has to do with the mediterranean market in town...anyway, it was bliss there...we're definitely gonna go back more...later in the evening we met up with Jacques and Amber again for Tony's last shift at huey's...so it was a pretty sweet day all around...
