ateolf: (The Metamorphosis)
yesterday Mary Beth and i went back to the library bookstore (i had to go back for one book i didn't get last week...well, i got that omnibus with the three Updike Rabbit books but then i realized it's a tetralogy and i remembered seeing the other one so i wanted to go back and complete it...i didn't get too much else, but anyway): Rabbit at Rest by John Updike, Slow Man by J. M. Coetzee, and The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera...then we went to eat at Jimmy's and had some quality hotdog action...since we were right by goodwill i decided to go there too...they ended up having even more books for me to get!: The Ground beneath Her Feet by Salman Rushdie, Electra by Euripides (and it turns out i'd bought it last week without realizing it as it was part of the "and Other Plays" of the book i'd gotten...oh well, at least it's a different translation...i can pretend i had scholarly intentions...), Absurdistan by Gary Shteyngart, Confessions of an English Opium-Eater and Other Writings by Thomas de Quincey, The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, and Theogony/Works and Days and Elegies by Hesiod and Theognis...then we went over to Peter from work's and hung out for a while...poor sleepy Mary Beth passed out in a chair...there were a couple other people there that i don't know...anyway, back to the subject of book acquisitions, i discovered that a book i'd gotten in St. Louis had been left in my car (hidden under scraps of newspaper) so i neglected to mention it before: Doctor Faustus by Thomas Mann...now that's done...
