ateolf: (zoo and you)
one thing i forgot from my last post is that on friday i received a shirt in the mail from engrish.com proclaiming "I'm the national treasure and I hate noise"...on monday i got another present from Mary Beth: I Am America (and So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert and it's all hilarious and stuff...we went back to hasting's 'cuz i was bothered by a book i'd passed up and i picked up: The Dwarfs by Harold Pinter, The Complete Short Prose 1929-1989 by Samuel Beckett, I Am not Jackson Pollock by John Haskell, Quicksand by Junichiro Tanizaki, and Goodbye Vietnam by Robert W. Wood...i'd never heard of the Haskell or Wood books but they were especially cheap and seemed interesting enough for the price...tuesday was a fun day of going to the zoo! we first had vietnamese buffet and then got to the zoo at like 1:30...turns out the getting in free with a state id doesn't start til 2 so we walked around overton park for thirty minutes...it was overcast and a little cold, but not too cold so it was kind of nice...the zoo was pretty nice too as it was pretty empty (even though a few of the animals weren't out...) it almost started to sprinkle as we walked in the gate but it stopped...we saw some neat animals like the red panda, pandas, bears, and some other good ones...i hadn't been since i was a kid...Ryan came over in the evening and we tried to play the Cities and Knights expansion of The Settlers of Catan but it took too long to figure the rules out and we were up too late and had to just quit...wednesday Mary Beth and i went to the Stax museum...also i got some cds in the mail: Young Marble Giants: Colossal Youth & Collected Works and Pylon: Gyrate...then yesterday Dustin and i went pawn shoppin'...we drove all around the whole damn city and went to a bunch...at one down south on lamar i got me a Harmony guitar for $40 even...that was exceptionally sweet...we exchanged christmas gifts with Dustin and he gave me a Behringer Bass Graphic Equalizer pedal and one of those little plastic Voice Changers that have "monster" and "alien" voices...i had one and now i have two! now i can set each on a different setting and make the "monster" like a bass drum and the "alien" like a snare and have a little drum thingie...pretty sweet...it's something i did with the first and now i can double the possibilities...yeah...we played regular Settlers with Ryan last night and i won for the first time! that was cool...oh yeah, and Mary Beth got me a book from the book bank: Clea & Zeus Divorce by Emily Prager...anyway, i guess that's about it...just enjoying my vacation with Mary Beth...i'm probably forgetting something 'cuz i've gone too long without posting, but anyhow...oh wait! i'm completely stupid! i forgot all about last night! after the gamin' we went to the bowling alley in bartlett and met Ryan and a couple of his old friends from munford and we bowled...their prices are pretty damned cheap...well, they have a special on thursdays...it was fun...i sucked horribly then after i found a better ball fell into my usual good-for-me-but-mediocre skills...bowled a 112 and then a 114...i think i got like two strikes one in each game or something like that (oh, but my terrible first game was like a 58...) then we all ate at ihop but i got heartburn i think (from eating mexican earlier)...it sucked but it's gone now and uh...i'm back to finishing up this post...i have a new userpic...it's from the photobooth at the zoo...and that's it...
