yesterday Mary Beth and i met Ryan and Ben for some vietnamese eatin's...then we went to spin street...i ransacked the used shelves a little bit:
Black Flag: Live '84
Magazine: Secondhand Daylight
Coil: The Angelic Conversation
Tangerine Dream: Alpha Centauri
André Laporte: Das Schloss
my jaw dropped when i saw the Coil...i haven't heard it yet, but it's supposed to be among their best stuff...early...and it's super-rare and expensive and i totally scored! the last thing i got i'd never heard of but it's an opera based on Franz Kafka's The Castle...my curiosity was piqued and i had to give it a shot...
after that we went to bookstar next door, i didn't get anything i mostly wanted to go to do some minor research to see if a book i was reading had a misprint or not by looking at some other copies...anyway, i'm there and someone comes up to me and asks if i'm [my name] and i look up and it's fucking Mason D'Amore, who was my best friend in boy scouts and i hadn't seen in 11 years or so and it was pretty mindblowing or whatever...he looked a lot different and i would have never recognized him...he's pretty buff now, which is kinda weird as he was nerdy and scrawny back in the day...no glasses (he used to wear really thick ones...) and his head was shaven pretty close (now, he's half-italian, half-chinese...he looks chinese, but he had really thick semi-curly hair...which only looking back could ever strike me as an unusual feature...such things don't stand out when you're a kid...anyway, my point is the hair was shaven so no distinguishing features i could recognize...) as soon as he said my name and i looked up i was like "Mason? holy shit!" but if he hadn't said my name first i wouldn't've recognized him...he talked a little bit...it's kinda lame how awkward it can be when you see someone you haven't seen in over a decade...sometimes it's kind of an "oh, god, i don't wanna talk to this person" sort of thing, but then others you're genuinely thrilled to see the person, but it's been so long and what do you say and it's just naturally awkward...this was the latter, it was awesome seeing him, not at all expected...it wasn't painfully awkward, just "wow, what do i say?" sorta thing...in retrospect i kinda wish i'd given him my number or whatever, but maybe that would have been too weird? we might not actually have much to say nowadays, maybe he just wanted to say hi or see if it was actually me and not much more...anyhow, it didn't even occur to me at the time so oh well...
later in the evening Jason came over and we went to Brad's birthday party...never been to his house...it was pretty fun...hanging around, hadn't hung out with Brad in forever...Berl came again this afternoon to replace the window...he's finally doing it, then the window breaks as he's putting it in so it has to be postponed once again...crazy! ah well...
