ateolf: (Knoxville Boi)
okay, this is pretty nerdy and pathetic, but what the hay...uh, tuesday night i met David and Phoebe at the p&h for some trivia...i was awesome...i answered like two questions...then after a while my mom met up with me and gave me a new phone and that was my christmas present...oh, and by the way my i did get my old one working again as i'd posted that it wasn't working...but then now i have a new one anyway...it's a camera phone...i took some pictures...i also bummed some luggage from her...then in the morning Mary Beth and i almost thought we were screwed with our flight as our ride wasn't awake and we called a cab but then our ride woke up and we were on our way and made it JUST in time...hoorah...i'd had like 3 hours of sleep so when we arrived i was pretty much dead and then slept a bunch...(and even napped some more later...) we went to used bookstores yesterday...this becomes the bulk of my post i guess, my nerdy book buying...bookstore #1: The Naked and the Dead by Norman Mailer, Sabbath's Theater by Philip Roth, Interstate by Stephen Dixon, Count Zero by William Gibson, The Violent Bear It Away by Flannery O'Connor, and A Quiet Life by Kenzaburo Oe...soy Leme thing popped up on this stinky mac laptop and just took away my post...but thank the heavens for the "undo typing"...i was almost mad...then used bookstore #2: How to Talk Dirty and Influence People by Lenny Bruce, Death in Midsummer and Other Stories by Yukio Mishima, The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima, Watt by Samuel Beckett, Jazz by Toni Morrison, One Man's Bible by Gao Xingjian, Labyrinths by Jorge Luis Borges, The Floating Opera and The End of the Road by John Barth, Nostromo by Joseph Conrad, Breakfast and Tiffany's by Truman Capote, Self Portraits by Osamu Dazai, Nine Stories by J. D. Salinger, Letter to His Father by Franz Kafka, For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway (one i read in high school and never had my own copy, blah blah...), and Harlot's Ghost by Norman Mailer...Rochester has sweet used bookstore action...uh, then today we went to a big two story barnes and noble that happens to sell used books too...for the most part it was about the same as the one out east in memphis, but i once again bought a ton of books: Go Down, Moses by William Faulkner, Ubik by Philip K. Dick, Neuromancer by William Gibson, Collected Stories by Paul Bowles, Goodbye, Columbus by Philip Roth, The Big U by Neal Stephenson, The Shooting Gallery & Other Stories by Yƫko Tsushima, The Piano Teacher by Elfriede Jelinek, Palace Walk: The Cairo Trilogy I by Naguib Mahfouz, Palace of Desire: The Cairo Trilogy II by Naguib Mahfouz, Shame by Salman Rushdie, The Yellow Arrrow by Victor Pelevin, and Teach Us to Outgrow Our Madness by Kenzaburo Oe...my "strategy" was buy now and figure out how the fuck i'm going to get these books home later...uh...yeah...from this post it looks like i've only journied up here on a book-buying quest...and while i admit this is a bit freakish there's more to it than that...but lists of books are the most FUN thing to post about! yeah...also there's no snow...and it's not really cold...i think everyone was lying about the north...and that's what i believe...i could think of more things to say but this keyboard is pissing me off...and it's pretty geeky sitting here on the floor...yeah...uh...
