nasvhille and Sigur Rós
Feb. 15th, 2006 08:45 pmtwas the big day yesterday...i got off work early (though there was a big hassle with traffic being morons, the time i requested off didn't account for the lunch break so i thought i'd be able to leave at 1:30 but they wouldn't let me and i had to leave at 2...which ended up with me taking 4 and a half hours of vacation instead of 5...anyway, it was just annoying is all...) so i was only at work a small bit...Amber met me and we went and had some wendy's til Brad got off at work just before 3...so we picked him and Andrew up (which is just down the street from where i work...) and we were on the road to nasvhille! i hadn't been on a road trip in a while...it was fun...lot of traffic going up...once we got in the city and were taking the exit ramp off the interstate (which was very congested and we had to wait in a long line backed up off the shoulder for a while...) this bitch in a jaguar tries to cut over and skip the line at the very last second while i was getting to the end so i was holding back and inching just enough to completely block her...she kept and kept trying to get closer...she didn't while i was there but she almost hit the vehicle behind me...she got in and they were like a couple inches apart...then they stopped and i think the guy in the other car was yelling at her...i'd thought there was a wreck at first, but traffic wasn't stopped long behind me...it was really funny...'cuz she was a dumb bitch...that's all...i'm sure it's a LOT more interesting when you read about it...
anyway, the show was really good...in spite of our not-so-great seats way off to the side...and the venue being what it is (it's nice, but fancy-schmancy theater places just lack something that a small club has when you're just fucking right there in front of the band...) at first i was thinking how it was a really good show but i wasn't making that "connection" or whatever...but slowly as it progressed i became completely absorbed in it...so that was awesome...the opening band played with 'em on most of the songs, mostly playing strings and etc...i imagine they're the people who played on their records too...if i knew what any of their songs were at all ever i'd say something about what they played...but they played a bunch of awesome songs...for some reason, i'd kind of assume the singer just sang...i guess 'cuz of how "dramatic" or whatever you call it the vocals are...and often when people sing like that they just sing...but turns out he's the (for the most part only) guitarist...and most of the time plays it with a bow to boot...there was one single song where he just sang...a couple songs he played bass and there were two basses and that was cool and there was a song or two when he bowed the bass...cool huh? somtimes they'd switch around and play different instruments (though not usually)...are they ripping off The Family Ghost? they played two encores...they played the first song behind the curtain and the end of the last song the curtain went back over them and they ended behind the curtain as well...uh...they had these neat sound-triggered lights on a couple songs...they were like the coolest lighting thing ever...especially on the one song they brought 'em out for where there are a lot of stops so the lights go off frequently...i dunno...i'm kind of rambling...but it was a good show...i got some merch beforehand: a t-shirt, the Ný Batterí ep, a set of buttons, and a silkscreened poster that's pretty sweet...
the ride back was pretty uneventful...we had some eating a waffle house...the dudes in the backseat slept most of it...it went quickly without much traffic on the road...then i worked today...took off three hours at the first of my shift so i could sleep in late since i had to drive back and all last night...work was uneventful...the end...
p.s.
i almost forgot something totally noteworthy! it turns out that very night Bon Jovi was playing the Music City...and even better than this (i know this sounds too funny to be true, but it's true by golly) they played the Gaylord Center...from the hoards of people out on the streets, they PACKED it!
