spending too much money...
Feb. 17th, 2002 03:24 pmfriday: brought the amp over to the practice space...i was gonna hang around and watch the band formerly known as Nemesis practice (they're not that anymore 'cuz there's like at least 2 other bands found w/ that name...) then Camy called and asked me to come in 'cuz they were very busy...i could use money so i went...worked like 2 hrs and made $30...later that night The Family Ghost practiced...Keith and i had to drag Brad out of bed 'cuz he was tired and sick...(well, annoy him out of bed is more like it...) but we made it and we sounded fucking great...the new amp helped (as well as being able to use Shade's amp...) so there was an amp for each instrument, instead of doubling up on two amps as we had been doing...we went through all of our "set" (the one of the last show, 6 fucking months ago...) except "Slow Autumn"...i'd say it was productive, much confidence has been restored...most all of it was up to par..."Uncurable" and "A Series of False Starts" need a little work, but that's to be expected after months of virtual inactivity...i think we're also ready to start working on new stuff again...woohoo!
but that night my brakes started making a really nasty grindingish noise so yesterday before work i went to get my brake pads replaced...i called 3 places and $99 was the best price, so i went to the place and then they said they wouldn't be able to get to me 'til monday...but there was a Goodyear next door so i went there...it was gonna be like $130, but i didn't have the time to not go w/ it as it was like 1:30 and i had to be at work at 3...they said it'd be an hour and a half, i called work and told 'em i might be a little late...it didn't end up getting finished 'til almost 4...they said they had to replace the rotars too...after tax it was all about $230...it could be worse...at least i HAD that much money at the time...it was Brad's first day working at Camy's...that was pretty cool...
after work i met Keith, Shawn, Robbie, Shade, and Tish at Cafe Creole...i had just eaten but i had some bread pudding...it was damned good...later Keith bumped into someone he knows at Piggy Wiggly, she told him of a Lost Sounds show at the People's Temple...we ended up going...i paid for Keith and Shawn 'cuz they're broke...we saw a little bit of one band play (The New Harlots, i believe they are called...) they were really good...dunno where they're from...ant too much later i was called back in to work...kind've sucks paying $15 for a show i spent at most 30 min at...but they were really busy and it helped make up for the less than $15 i made in the first shift 'cuz we were really slow for some reason...(i was let go before 7...)
i forgot to mention, between work and Cafe Creole, i went by Turtle's...got Elvis Costello and the Attractions: Blood & Chocolate...and i managed to pick up the Ghost World dvd...i prob'ly shouldn't've (not actually owning a dvd player and all), but hey, i have no regrets about it...
and when i got home last night, i talked to Chris Lawrence online...he really wants The Family Ghost to submit a cover of "XXX" (and another song if we get around to it) for the Helium tribute...i guess we should get to work on that in the not-too-distant future then...
