The t-shirts for the festival were ready and I went and picked them up after work! I thought I'd shake things up just a little bit and it's the first non-brown shirt for the festival itself. There's also a shirt for The Terminator live score. In the evening I was working on my music for the live score and tried to do a play-along. It took a while to set up where I could watch the movie and all that. I also had a big task of untangling a whole bunch of cables while setting up. Then I ran into a series of issues... The first is that, though it had been working, my Syncussion drum synth was not working as of yesterday! (I'd thought I smelled some burning circuitry the day before, but then assumed I was conflating the smell of dinner which was something citrusy being roasted as nothing seemed to be amiss with my gear after that.) So it "works" and I can hear the sounds it makes if I crank the input gain it's plugged into ALL THE WAY UP, so it's probably just like an amp or something similar right by the output. But that won't really do me any good for this show that's a week from tomorrow. I'm sure I don't have enough time to fix it. It's not ESSENTIAL but it's a fun and "showy" instrument...and I was looking forward to the laser blast sounds I was going to make with it. I'm not using one of my modular cases and I think I can hook up similar drum synth sounds with that and plug the drum pads into it. Though it's goofy 'cuz the main reason (well, aside from thinking of the laser blasts) I picked the drum synth was it was nice and small and fits on my table real nice and in my gig bag and I'm trying to avoid the problem of last live score where I just carried too much shit. So the modular case will be a little bit larger (I mean, not crazy huge but it won't fit in the gig bag and the little things can add up) and I'll just keep it on the floor instead of on the table because I won't actually need to interact with it, but still. All just an annoying situation. Then I had trouble because the timing of the movie when I played it back and the timer on my tablet were not lining up. The movie was going slower. Which was wrong? After diagnosing I found it was the movie that was wrong, the problem I keep having where my sound output is either 48kh or 44.1kh and when it's one way some things come out messed up and when it's the other, well, other things come out messed up. Either with crackling static or the speed is wrong. Got it at the correct speed and everything synced up again. So I had a bit of time wasted, but I practiced on some things. And I started a go-through. There was one part when we did the playthrough at rehearsal where the timing was weird and there was this one five second bit of silence which is weirdly short. I'm playing over that part and realize the other timings don't seem right. There's a short-ish cue playing over dialog and its length is such that it doesn't make sense that it would be over dialog and then when it starts and there's no talking, it doesn't fit the mood anyway, so I realized it was an extra cue in a wrong place by mistake. The plan is to remove it and make the pulse before it a little longer and the silence after it a little longer and starting where the dialog is. So that makes sense! Anyway, there are two cues in a row and I figured I can remove one and left the question up the performers so we'll see which one goes. Anyway, that was productive so it wasn't all a loss.
