I finished reading My Death by Lisa Tuttle yesterday. Prompted at Mary Beth's suggestion (her book and all...sort of like an off-cycle spousal book club). It was really good. It has kind of a broken Moebius loop at the end that vaguely reminds me of Mulholland Drive. At night, I went downtown to practice with Drop Ceiling. They're doing this "double orchestra" sort of thing next week, playing with Rob Magill, and they asked me to be a part of it. It's a large expanded band with eight people total. Set up in opposite facing sides. There were a few musicians I recognize: of course Schaeffer and Peter (George will be there next week but couldn't make the practice), Foster, David Collins (jazz guitarist and played with Tatsuya Nakatani), and Bennett is conducting. They made these kinda matching puzzle sets, each in a different color. They have an overhead camera set up to a projector with a video effects unit in between. So there's a kaleidoscope of colors projected and we're all assigned colors and when our colors are on we play, etc. It ended up being pretty cool, Bennett gave it a pretty awesome aesthetic, more than I was expecting when I first saw it, they changed things around a bit and it looked pretty good. We did a couple runthroughs and it sounded pretty cool. Most of the other musicians are much more melodic minded than I am. After we were done, there were a few concerns that it got too chaotic in places (never a concern for me!). Hopefully the synth skronk I'm doing isn't too hated by everyone else. I just brought my Minibrute (so I'd gotten a nice practice from the show this past weekend). Anyway, that's about it for now.
