Surprise Show

There was a show last night that I was going to go to anyway because Aster and Cel Shade were both playing. Then a couple days ago, Dominic reached out to me to see if I could help find someone to fill in since the touring artist had cancelled. I found a couple people who were interested and needed to check on their availability, but then came back that they couldn't. So finally yesterday afternoon I was just like, uh sure I'll hop on then. Didn't have anything prepared, but I figured I could double up practicing for this Drop Ceiling "orchestra" thing I'll be participating in soon, I was planning on just using the Minibrute so that would keep things simple. I figured for this last minute show I could also bring my looper pedal to get some more layers since it's just me solo. Ran some errands also. Mary Beth and I did our seasonal Kroger run. I had a little time to play around with the synth and come up with a couple of things to do. I had the smallest setup for a show ever. Just carried my gig bag (which barely fits the Microbrute in it) and a keyboard stand. I got to the Lamplighter a little early and set up. It was a while before Lo and Juniper showed up. Then we sat around waiting until Dominic got there just before showtime. At first it looked like it was just going to be the musicians playing to each other, but as I started playing people came over from the bar area. I went through my set and think it probably went okay. The people there seemed very into it, which is nice. Laurel and her friend said they had a whole visual narrative that they experienced while listening to it. They imagined being inside the internet (like late 90s era) but like, Tron-like going through the wires and stuff. And then at some point malware came in and then there was a like a battle between that and McAfee. Stuff like that. It was pretty amusing. Then Aster played and his set was good. More of the trance kind of style he's done lately. Then it was Cel Shade who was great as always. The flow of the whole thing was among her best, it seemed to me. Anyway, back to work and stuff.
