ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)

The first of my birthday gift card books arrived in the mail: The Hole by Hiroko Oyamada, The Necrophiliac by Gabrielle Wittkop, and Our Wives under the Sea by Julia Armfield. At night Mary Beth and I went to a show at the Hi Tone. It turned out to be a very good shoegaze show! Was a little bummed 'cuz it started earlier than expected and we missed whit3corset's set, but we at least got to see and talk to Emily and [her partner, the same person but newly named] Mason. The two touring bands were No Culture from Alabama and Greyland from Oklahoma. They were both very good and some nice, real shoegaze. We were very much into both of their sets and I got some merch, a t-shirt from each of them. Last was Nonconnah and that was a very good set of theirs as well. Zachary had this hum coming from somewhere in his guitar-to-pedals-to-amp line and it was being enhanced a little by some pedals and it was this little but powerful stream of static early on in this quiet parts. It wasn't intention and in fact Zachary tried to make it stop before playing but was unsuccessful, anyway, my point is that I liked it a lot! Having that going during the quiet and prettily picked guitar parts at the beginning made me think of Flying Saucer Attack. Then it was a short but really good performance. The show was over at a pretty decent time but then, as often is the case, it was hard for us to fall asleep afterwards. Oh well! It was worth it.
