Mary Beth and I went to see the Memphis Symphony Orchestra in the afternoon. This was the concert that had been delayed after the big snowstorm back in January. The first piece they did was Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture which hadn't been on the program the first time, but since they were also playing the Sunset Symphony concert the same weekend, they replaced something else with it as that's a lot of stuff to learn and they were already going to do this one for the Sunset Symphony. So we got to hear that one and I like it. Next it was Ravel's Piano Concerto with Terrence Wilson as a guest pianist and that piece was really good too. They finished it with Dvořák's New World Symphony and that was also good. It was quite the solid program! A little later after we'd gotten home, we went to Fresh Market to pick up some sushi for dinner. Then at night I went out to a show at Black Lodge. Revenge Body opened things up. Then it was two touring bands with variations on hardcore. God Called in Sick was next and they were a bit like My War era Black Flag and they ruled. Next was Worldsucks and they were more kinda like speed metal stripped down to its hardcore elements. They did have a sludgier part or two. They were good also. I guess the drummer is a deadhead (Jacques was telling me it's the drummer...they were just drums and guitar/vocals though) and they had The Grateful Dead movie playing behind them, which was kinda funny I guess. Last it was Mystic Light Casino and they played a good set. They had Daisies playing behind them and it's fun to watch even without sound or seeing all of it. Now it's a holiday! Though the darn yardworkers were out mowing the lawn and such right by our windows in the morning! Why they gotta do that today!? It did wake me up a minute but I went back to sleep.
