Mary Beth and I went to the symphony and it was a really nice program. First they played "Wylie Avenue" from The Great Migration by Kathryn Bostic (it's some thing that's related to August Wilson), it was good and had elements of jazz woven in. Then they did Edouard Lalo's Concerto in D Minor for Cello and Orchestra. Lalo's someone that no one was familiar with beforehand (including the people on stage, we attended the before talk as well as the q&a afterwards), but it was quite good. It had a guest soloist on cello. Then it was Claude Debussy's Le Mer which was good and especially good to see live given the way during parts of it the music moves throughout the sections in 3D. And last was Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird suite and that was very good, of course.

I forgot to mention the most emotional thing from Saturday in my last post! So while we were at the Dixon, I found out that Trash Cat had been found and returned to the Hi Tone. And uh, she was found in Collierville! She'd been at the Collierville animal shelter after someone had found her outside a bar out there. (For those unfamiliar with the geography of Memphis and its suburbs, Collierville is uh, NOT close to the Hi Tone at all! I just mapped it out, that's about twenty-one miles). The prevailing opinion is that someone catnapped her from the bar, took her back to their place out in Collierville, she promptly got away from those jerks as soon as she could, found the nearest bar which (sniff) she was hoping was her home (and then the rest of someone picking her up, etc.). After it had been so long and given the timing of when she went missing, I was starting to get a bleak in my outlook. She went missing right before the big winter storm that shut everything down and covered everything in snow for a week and that was well over a month ago. Anyway, all of midtown is very happy to see Trash Cat returned home. Again, I first saw the news while out in public at the Dixon and I had to fight back getting a little weepy.
