Books and Coughs
Dec. 27th, 2023 08:13 amIn the afternoon I finished reading North by Louis-Ferdinand Céline. When I started it, I didn't realize it was the second in a trilogy (and I have the first one, Castle to Castle, too so it's now been thrown on my to-read pile anyway), though chronologically it takes place before the events of the prior book so, I guess it kind of doesn't matter? It was good...autobiographical about the most despicable part of his life (fleeing France for being a collaborator, into Nazi Germany where he doesn't get along that well either, but still much better than in France). Obviously it's a bit hard to feel sorry for him when he whines about everybody despising him, even for the hardships he deals with during the war given uh, what a lot of other people went through in wwii. But it is an unusual perspective from what you ever read about. And the writing is really excellent. So since that ended the books I'll be reading this year, I went and made a little thing over at listchallenges if you feel like clicking boxes of books that you've already read. I'll probably repeat the venture on the first of next year right on here as is the annual tradition. My cough has been really obnoxious. At times I'll be coughing a whole bunch to the point where it hurts but I'm really not coughing anything up at all (I was a couple days ago for a little bit but it stopped, dried up). And now I've gotten Mary Beth sick so that's no good!
