I did write a little more yesterday. The main event was in the afternoon Mary Beth and I went to the symphony again. It started with a couple of more contemporary composers. First was "Banner" by Jessie Montgomery, which picks up the theme of the national anthem (which initially sounds like it'd be terrible, but it was more of a deconstruction and recombination with other national anthems and such, kind of addressing all the issues one would have with the national anthem, in a musical approach...and it was interesting and good!). Next was "Impressions from the Black Sea" by Dan Lazarescou. And last, the main event of course, was Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. Yeah, it feels like a cliché and all, but it really is an amazing piece. I was happy to finally get to see it performed in person. So all in all it was pretty awesome. Later at night Mary Beth and I had something of an unintentional movie marathon. We first watched Legally Blonde and then ended up watching Cruel Intentions (the similar cast and time period made Mary Beth think of the other). Okay, now I've gotta get out of this long weekend mode and back into work mode!
