Yesterday morning Mary Beth and I met Josh, Molly, Finn, and Sammy up at Black Lodge for Futurama Brunch. We had some food while Futurama was playing on the big screen. It was fun to catch up! Then after that I was just finishing getting ready for my show last night. I also finally got the pads on the drums and practiced for my other show (the free jazz show that's tonight). I mean, I'd wanted to practice a lot more leading up to it, but I at least know I should be not-out-of-shape-enough to get by. And super-looking-forward to that anyway.

I forgot to mention in my last post that on Saturday I got some blue-ray acquisitions from the last Criterion sale in the mail: Inland Empire, Lost Highway, The Velvet Underground, and Raging Bull.

Okay, then I went up to the show. I was first. When I started almost nobody was there, but some more people trickled in while I was playing. I used the tape machine that Heather gave me with a contact mic up to its speaker for part of the set. Next up was Fosterfalls with some very lovely indie folk stuff. Then it was Jon Camp who's the person from out of town (though not touring, just happened to be on vacation in Memphis anyway and wanted to play a show while here). His stuff was really good. Kinda country, a little bit American primitive. Jason Pulley was last with his piano songs. It was originally going to be Droneroom playing, who asked me to set the thing up for Jon but he had to back out and Jason filled in. It was a good show, musically all over the map. That made it (along with having another show to promote the same weekend) weird to promote since I couldn't do it as a Memphis Concrète show since it was mostly outside of MC's "mission" or whatever you'd call it. Not a lot of people showed up, but a few people did. We didn't clear the threshold for the door which I don't care about for the money but I guess they changed how much that is? I thought it was fifty (or used to be?) and I know I counted more than five people who would have paid (not many more, but a few more). Oh well, at least there wasn't anyone touring for real or anything.
