Last night Mary Beth and I went to see an Indie Memphis screening (the first of their Wednesday night series since pre-pandemic) of All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, the documentary about Nan Goldin. It was very good, split between her past career and personal life and her recent activism against the billionaire family responsible for the opioid crisis (but, of course, it's not really even a split). It was really good on all fronts. Also yesterday I had worked on making my python script convert the files to mp3 before copying them over to the player. I let it run overnight (starting from before we left for the movie). The whole process took closer to thirteen hours and this time it copied well over eight thousand files. As it is, I have a flag that will let me choose either way, flac or mp3. It's currently running each file in series so I may look into parallel or some kind of async processing. I'm not familiar with it in python and I know what I'm used to in c# probably makes that baby-level easy, but I'll see what could be done there. I'm sure the time could be brought down somewhat, at least. Either way I can load it up with flacs without too much forethought and if I want to really load it up with mp3s I can set aside a day without too much problem.
