Yesterday I went up to the Friends of the Library book sale when it opened and grabbed some books: The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, The Slaves of Solitude by Patrick Hamilton, The Optimist's Daughter by Eudora Welty, Heir to the Glimmering World by Cynthia Ozick, Dawn by Elie Wiesel, Paris Stories by Mavis Gallant, Travesties by Tom Stoppard, A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, Three Plays: Desire under the Elms / Strange Interlude / Mourning Becomes Electra by Eugene O'Neill, and The Plays for Radio 1964-1983 by Tom Stoppard (for the Shakespeare, yes, I have that complete works of Shakespeare omnibus but throughout the years, I've come to accept the fact that it's so giant and unwieldy that I'm never encouraged to actually read anything out of it, I pretty much have to sit at a table or desk and can't just casually read wherever, I did manage to read King Lear out of it, but it was a bit of a chore, physically speaking...so I've accepted I should also pick up his works in separate volumes when I run across them for cheap). Then I went to the other side of the building to the Second Editions bookstore and picked up a few more (for not-quite-but-almost-as cheap): The Red-Haired Woman by Orhan Pamuk, The Grass Is Singing by Doris Lessing, The Tunnel by Ernesto Sábato, and The Interesting Narrative and Other Writings by Olaudah Equiano. Then I went over to Payne's to pick up lunch! I kinda "messed up" our order by wanting to order rib sandwiches but I asked for a "rib sandwich plate" so I got a rib plate instead, but it's all the components of a rib sandwich and more (just they're not assembled in the vaguely sandwich-like configuration of the rib "sandwich" (which you don't actually eat like a sandwich anyway, I mean, it's actual ribs with bones)). So it worked out 'cuz we just put the ribs and slaw on top of the bread slices and then had beans as a bonus! (And the beans were SO good too!) So it was a very delicious lunch. In the afternoon we took a walk.

Then at night we went over to Josh and Molly's. We went over to Rotolo's, a pizza chain that has deep dish pizza. (Mary Beth and I didn't get the deep dish, but we got some fig pizza thing.) It was okay, nothing was bad but it was all very premium mediocre. Nothing tasted as good as it really could have. Their cups and menu have a very old school dive pizzeria feel, but the actual decor and feel of the place is a sterilized bougie thing. Then back to their place for more hanging out. Josh showed me this circuit bent sampler he'd bent and it was a whole lot of fun to play and screw around with. After a while we were idly talking about audio interfaces and I mentioned how I didn't have a real one now and he said he'd had one he'd been trying to sell but couldn't and he gave it to me so now I have an audio interface! And it has a large number of channels. So I'm pretty excited! Then at the end we watched an episode of The Midnight Club which their kids are into and I guess it's a YA thing so I really shouldn't judge it by adult standards (but it was kinda bad...the acting...well, all the dialog was halted every ten or so syllables...kinda felt like the bad voice acting in early aughts video games...not acted AS bad as that, but the pacing was just off, it was a little distracting). Anyway, another awesome thing happened. So Tatsuya Nakatani is coming to town in a few weeks to do his Gong Orchestra. Well, yesterday Eric of Goner put out a post looking for percussionist volunteers to fill out the orchestra so I sent an email and he got back a little later in the night saying I'm in! So I get to play with Tatusya Nakatani and I am VERY VERY VERY excited! He wants me to spread the word too, so now to see if more percussionists in Memphis wanna do this!

and the gross ending to the ep! ah well. had potential. i need to remember my line "men don't deserve to have control over nukes or narratives", ha.

i have really missed hanging out with them. and hearing how things are going for them and M's mom reminds me to Stay Angry/Focused in a fruitful (not despairing or toxic) way.
